In honor of our 25th wedding anniversary, my wife Carole
and I decided to take a cruise through the western Caribbean
on the brand new Holland America ship, the ms Zaandam. We
left for Fort Lauderdale on June 10, 2000, and boarded the
ship at Port Everglades. For the next six days, we headed
for the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Grand Cayman Island,
Jamaica, and Holland America's own island in the Bahamas,
Half Moon Cay.

I had always wanted to see Mayan ruins in the
Yucatan. It was a rough ride gettting there, but we finally
got to see them at Tulum, south of Playa Del
Carmen.

The only Mayan ruins on the Caribbean, Tulum
presents magnificent views along the coast.
